Exercises for Anxiety

Exercise for Anxiety


I love this exercise it might be because I like to write things down and see things clearly but I really feel like this exercise works really well.
           
            Whenever you get anxious stop and think what specifically are you anxious about for me it helps to write it out. It’s easier to see an example of the exercise then to explain it so I’ll give an example.
Example 1:                                                               I’m at school
I’m scared because I want to go home
I’m scared because I won’t pass my test
I’m scared because I want my mom

(Then I would counteract each of those statements)
Even though I’m scared because I want to go home I know that I will go home soon. And I fully love and appreciate myself.
Even though I’m scared because I won’t pass my test I know that I am very intelligent and I will pass the next one and I fully love and appreciate myself.
Even though I’m scared because I know I want my mom I know that I will see her soon. And I fully love and appreciate myself.
Even though I can’t change these things right now I know things won’t always be like this and I know I am strong enough to hand this And I fully love and appreciate myself.

The reason I do write this down is it’s easy to say these things and say well what if… but when I write it down I see it on the page it reinforces what I have said. And I do the “I fully love and appreciate myself” because I think as people in general but especially with anxiety we don’t feel like we love ourselves so I feel like that is good to see. And you can say or write these things down for any situation as many times as you need to see well. You could even just read them out loud instead of writing over and over again.


Example 2:                                                 I’m at work
I’m scared because my boss is mad at me
I’m scared because I don’t have enough time to finish projects
I’m scared because I left my phone at home

Even though I’m scared because my boss is mad at me I know that I am a good worker and they won’t always be mad. And I fully love and appreciate myself
Even though I’m scared because I don’t have enough time to finish projects I know I can finish it tomorrow and it will be okay. And I fully love and appreciate myself
Even though I’m scared because I left my phone at home I know I will be home soon and family/ friends know how else to get a hold of me. And I fully love and appreciate myself
Even though I can’t change these things now I know that things won’t always be like thing and I’m strong enough to get through this. And I fully love and appreciate myself.


Example 3:                                                   I’m in public


I’m scared because there are a lot of people
I’m scared because what if something goes wrong
I’m scared because what if people star at me

Even though I’m scared because there are a lot of people I know there aren’t as many as there seem and they are scared just like me. And I fully love and appreciate myself.
Even though I’m scared because what if something goes wrong I know that if something does go wrong that I will be able to handle it. And I fully love and appreciate myself.
Even though I’m scared because what if people star at me I know that they are in their own heads like me and aren’t really staring at me. And I fully love and appreciate myself

Even though even though I know I can’t change these things I know I am strong enough to handle these things. And I fully love and appreciate myself.
